Apple has officially unveiled the next-generation operating system for iPhones, ending with 14. In the iOS 14 update, the company has introduced a completely redesigned desktop with full-featured widgets, an App Library page, a Picture-in-Picture feature, as well as a redesigned Siri and many other innovations. In this article, we will describe and show all the new features of the iOS 14 update
New home screen with widgets
In the iOS 14 update, Apple has redesigned the desktop for the first time, which now supports full-featured widgets.
App widgets in iOS 14 can be placed directly between app icons on the iPhone home screen. Widgets are updated in real time and provide users with different information, depending on the app, of course.
App widgets can be stretched in different ways so that they span the entire width of your iPhone desktop, for example. At the same time, multiple widgets can be placed on one page of the desktop, including two underneath each other, etc.
Apple has developed full-featured widgets for most standard apps in iOS 14. Third-party app developers will be able to create widgets for their apps, just like the earlier widgets that appeared on iPhones in iOS 12.
Widgets in iOS 14 can be added from the widgets page or from the icon management menu on the home screen.
In addition, Apple has developed a special type of widget that, simply put, contains several widgets within it. These widgets can be controlled and paged through, thereby changing the information displayed. Moreover, this information changes depending on the time of day or the location of the user. For example, in the morning such a widget displays scheduled calendar events, in the evening it displays activity statistics during the day.
Picture-in-Picture function
In iOS 14, Apple added the Picture-in-Picture feature. This option allows you to watch video over all running apps. To bring the video to the new mode, you need to press a special icon that is located in the standard video player.
New Translator app
This app allows you to translate text (including voice) between 11 languages.
The new translator in iOS 14 supports the following languages: English, French, German, Russian, Spanish, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Portuguese and Mandarin Chinese.
The app is able to work in landscape mode, for more convenient interaction for two users. This allows users to perform quick translation for easier communication.
New interface for Siri voice assistant
Siri has received a major update in iOS 14. Siri no longer fills the entire iPhone screen when in use. The voice assistant is now shown as a small icon at the bottom of the display.
Siri is now able to respond to user requests without opening the requested information across the page. For example, if you ask Siri for weather information in iOS 14, a small window will appear at the top of the screen.
Siri in iOS 14 also lets you reply to messages by sending voice messages. Apple also said that Siri will work with the Reminders app
New App Library
In addition to adding widgets to the iOS 14 home screen, Apple has added a special library, called the App Library, to the home screen. This page conveniently collects all the apps installed on your iPhone. The apps are organized by type and category for quick searching. In addition, the App Library page allows you to direct app search.
In iOS 14, the ability to quickly remove app pages from the home screen has been added. To do this, you need to uncheck the unnecessary pages, after which they will no longer appear on the main screen. In this case, all apps can be found on the App Library page. As Apple states, the innovation will allow you to organize the apps installed on your iPhone much better.
Updated News
Group chats have been improved in the Messages app on iOS 14. Users can now respond directly to specific messages. Messages responded to in this way create a thread for easier reading. In addition, users can set up a group chat to receive notifications only when the message is intended for them.
Features App Clips
The big new feature in iOS 14 is App Clips. This lets you instantly download small versions of apps when you need them, without having to install the full version of apps from the App Store. For example, if a user needs an app to pay for parking, iOS 14 will prompt them to download a small version of the app and make the payment. The app loads in a few small seconds and allows you to pay for the service without first linking it to a credit card, assuming Apple Pay is set up on the iPhone.
New Memoji
Of course, the update wasn’t without the new Memoji that Apple tries to add to all major iOS updates. In iOS 14, Apple has added new options for creating Memoji and several new types of Memoji stickers for sending via iMessage.
CarKey
IOS 14 introduces CarKey, which lets you turn your iPhone into a full-fledged car key. To use this feature, the user must first add the vehicle to the Wallet app. Once configured, the user will be able to start the engine, open the doors, and control other vehicle functions through the iPhone. The feature has only one drawback, it will only be supported on the latest BMW i5 series.
Apple also stressed that CarKey will also work on iPhones running iOS 13. This feature will allow you to grant access to your car to other iPhone users and send the key through the Wallet app, among other things.
Change email and default browser
IOS 14 introduces the long-awaited ability to change the default email app and browser. After installing iOS 14, users will be able to change the Mail and Safari browser to any other downloaded from the App Store.
New call design
In iOS 14 and iPadOS 14, Apple has come up with a long-awaited innovation – an updated view of incoming calls. Now, the call will appear as a small bar at the top of the display. With this innovation, users won’t have to interrupt a running app when they receive an incoming call on their iPhone.

Release date IOS 14
The official world premiere date for iOS 14 is September 2020.
In the second half of September, Apple traditionally releases a new operating system for iPhone along with new models of its products. At the moment, we have no indication that anything is going to change in this sense, and Apple will, for example, decide to release an Axis update only in October or November. However, experts are concerned that Apple may postpone the release of the new iPhone 12 to October, due to the difficult epidemiological situation in the world. However, there is no such knowledge regarding the postponement of the official release date of iOS 14.
