Samsung has begun supplying the flexible matrix to Apple

Foldable smartphones have started to gain momentum, but Samsung has already thought about starting to offer flexible matrices to its direct competitors – Apple and Google. According to ETNews, these companies may actually be interested in screens of this type – making their own foldable smartphones.

According to insiders, Samsung provided Apple with a 7.2-inch flexible screen for testing. It is noteworthy that a similar matrix is already used in the Samsung Galaxy Fold, although it is slightly larger.

The South Korean manufacturer has no intention of keeping the foldable display technology a secret and is making it exclusive. Instead, Samsung hopes to become the world’s largest supplier of foldable matrices. The company can now produce 2.4 million displays a year. But if demand is high – Samsung is prepared to increase its supply of folding matrices – up to 10 million a year.

Recall that Samsung is the largest supplier of OLED screens. It owns 95% of the world market. In addition, the South Korean giant has an exclusive contract to supply displays for the iPhone. The closest competitor – LG Display, unfortunately, is not keeping up with the development.

The source does not report how Apple responded to Samsung’s proposal. However, it is known that Cupertino has all the capabilities to create foldable smartphones – which only cost dozens of registered patents, whatever the methods of similar devices. However, there is no reliable information that the company may be working on a foldable iPhone.
