Samsung Smart TVs receive update with Apple TV and AirPlay 2 support

Not all of Apple’s solutions can be explained, but they can be divided into two categories. The solutions of the first category are related to business strategy and the simplest. In the end, they leave users with the ability to prove the company wrong. This was the case with the price increase on the iPhone, which gradually began to fall. However, the decisions of the second category are ideological in nature and, since they are not related to the company’s previous policy, cause rather helpless surprise. One of them is the support for AppleTV apps and AirPlay 2 technology that Samsung TVs have received.

Yesterday, simultaneously with the release of iOS 12.3 and tvOS 12.3, the distribution of the update for Samsung smart TVs began. We deliberately do not use the word “release”, because at the moment the described update is available only to a limited number of users. At least, the update will reach Russia not earlier than the summer.

AirPlay-enabled TVs
This update will be available on all smart TVs released in 2019 and on some 2018 models. It includes support for AirPlay 2 technology and iTunes and Apple TV apps that were previously available exclusively on Apple devices. It was this news that surprised many users, who unanimously said Jobs would never sacrifice the proximity of the company’s trademarks.

It’s clear that Apple has opened up iTunes and AppleTV to Samsung TVs to expand its influence. After all, the Apple TV app carries the company’s two new services: AppleTV Channels, which is already available for use, and Apple TV+, which will only be released in the fall.

Cupertino studied the market and concluded that most users still prefer to watch movies and TV shows on TV. And given the high hopes the company placed on its new platforms, it was simply foolish to ignore the smart TV market. For in this case, Apple would have shed several million subscribers, allowing it to quickly justify the investment.
